OFS explore parents’ capacity to care for their children and assesses reasonable support required to enable them offer ‘good enough parenting’ to a child. We examine a parent’s capacity to adequately meet the physiological needs of their child/ren and the likelihood of the parent sustaining such capacity short, medium and long term.
We could commence such an assessment immediately we receive a ‘Letter of Instruction’ and ideally, following a professionals meeting. We aim to complete file our assessment within between six and eight weeks period.
During your assessment, your social worker will visit you at home, usually six to eight times over six weeks. The visit will include a minimum of two unannounced visits to the family home. The social worker will also invite you to a convenient place in the community to observe your interaction with the child in the community.
